Sea & Lagoon
Burano, Murano and Torcello
By boat from Portegrandi, 15 minutes from Casa Fiorindo
The islands of the northern lagoon are a world of their own. Burano charms with its brightly painted houses and its lace-making tradition; Murano has been the home of art glass for centuries, with furnaces and workshops where you can watch the glassmakers at work; Torcello, the oldest of the three, keeps the Byzantine mosaics of one of the cradles of Venetian civilisation in its basilica of Santa Maria Assunta.
From Casa Fiorindo you can reach the islands on organised boat trips from Portegrandi, Altino or Punta Sabbioni, or by vaporetto from Venice. You’ll find all the details in our guide to nature and the lagoon.
