Salt marshes and fishermen’s huts
Islets covered in wild plants such as sea lavender, which turns purple in summer, dotted with ‘casoni’ – the old reed huts that once sheltered fishermen.
The Northern Lagoon by boat, the Sile river, cycle routes between the Sile and the Piave, houseboats and the Caglieron Caves.
Just a few kilometres from Casa Fiorindo lies a treasure trove of wildlife, history and age-old silence: Venice’s Northern Lagoon. Then there are the Sile and Piave rivers, cycle paths along their banks, hidden waterfalls in the Pre-Alps and, on the horizon, the Dolomites.
Slow itineraries by boat, by bike or on foot, to discover a Veneto far from the tourist crowds.
Far from the tourist crowds, the Northern Lagoon is a vast expanse of brackish water where land meets sea, creating landscapes that seem suspended in time.
Islets covered in wild plants such as sea lavender, which turns purple in summer, dotted with ‘casoni’ – the old reed huts that once sheltered fishermen.
Burano with its brightly painted houses and lace-making, Torcello, the cradle of Venetian civilisation, and Murano with its art-glass workshops.
Tiny hamlets such as Lio Piccolo and the fishing valleys, where pink flamingos, herons and egrets find their ideal habitat. Best explored on foot or by bike.
The best way to experience the lagoon is from the water. Several operators run full-day or half-day trips to the islands, departing from points close to Casa Fiorindo.
Trips across the Northern Lagoon to Torcello, Burano, Murano and the ‘islands of the spirit’, plus cruises on the Sile river. Free parking at the pier and seasonal trips all year round.
Guided trips aboard a ‘bragozzo’, the traditional lagoon boat, to Torcello, Burano and San Francesco del Deserto. Boarding near the Altino Archaeological Museum.
Tours of Murano, Burano and Torcello, trips to Venice and evening outings, departing from Punta Sabbioni (Cavallino-Treporti) and other points around the lagoon.

The Sile rises from springs and flows slowly to the lagoon, passing through Treviso, Casier, Casale sul Sile and Portegrandi. Its clear waters, towpaths and mills are protected by the Sile River Regional Nature Park.

The countryside around Meolo is flat and criss-crossed by riverbanks and quiet roads – ideal for exploring by bike. Ask us about the bikes available for guests.

From Casale sul Sile you can rent a houseboat without a boating licence and cruise down the river to the Venetian Lagoon, stopping at villages and islands along the way. An experience that pairs well with a stay at the farmhouse.

In the Treviso Pre-Alps, the Caglieron stream has carved a striking gorge of waterfalls, potholes and old sandstone quarries. A trail of walkways and little bridges guides you through it: cool in summer, spectacular in winter with its icicles.
For mountain lovers: the UNESCO-listed Dolomites are about two hours away by car. Find out more on our Dolomites page and in our guide to the UNESCO sites.
Casa Fiorindo is set in the Venetian countryside: after a day on the lagoon or along the river, peace and greenery are waiting for you back home too.
