Palmanova
~1 h by car from Casa Fiorindo
Founded by the Republic of Venice in 1593, Palmanova is a perfectly planned fortress town: a nine-pointed star with the hexagonal Piazza Grande at its centre. Since 2017 it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Venetian Works of Defence of the 16th and 17th centuries.
You enter through one of three monumental gates and can walk along the ramparts and walkways, now surrounded by greenery. From the air it’s one of Italy’s most spectacular sights; on the ground it’s a peaceful little town to explore on foot or by bike.
